COVID-19 COUNTDOWN
WORKING TOWARDS EFFICIENT AND EQUITABLE VACCINE DISTRIBUTION ACROSS THE AFRICAN CONTINENT
BETTER DATA FOR REAL IMPACT
Atlas AI's mission is to identify the most impactful and sustainable opportunities for economic well-being with an easy to use platform. To access insightful information in a data-spare envrionment, we created Aperture™ - a platform to host the most meaningful datasets for emerging and frontier markets.
THE CALL TO ACTION
In order to determine how to best deploy resources to reduce the spread of COVID-19 and to assist with a vaccination rollout, we followed the World Health Organization’s (WHO) established framework.
The WHO global allocation framework contains four major elements: Goals, Target Groups, Timing and Boundary Conditions that together inform how COVID-19 vaccine can be fairly allocated.
Aperture™ by Atlas AI contains data spanning the African continent that help identify Target Groups, Timing, and Boundary Conditions.
Goals
What are the overarching goals of the response?
Target Groups
Which target groups should receive products in priority to help
achieve this goal?
How should specific products be allocated given their
characteristics?
Timing
At what pace will countries receive products given:
• Their vulnerabilities (health systems & population factors)
• The dynamic nature of the threat?
Boundary Conditions
What other factors will impact the allocation of specific products
given to countries:
• Product characteristics
• Country context?
Our Analysis
We ran analyses with a mix of public and proprietary data to produce hyperlocal insights at the village level (2km per pixel) in order to inform a continent-wide picture.
- First, we identified Disadvantaged Populations
-
Then, we determined where Critical Infrastructure is available
- A list of electrified healthcare facilities
- Distance from electrified healthcare facilities to their nearest ports of entry
- After that, we calculated the Service Area Patient Load
-
Lastly, we focused on Boundary Conditions
- How service areas enlarge and constrict based on national border policy
